Anti-Racism Community Webinar

"A Long Talk About the Uncomfortable Truth"

  • BYU Athletics is excited to announced that we will be hosting sessions of the anti-racism program, “A Long Talk About the Uncomfortable Truth” during the week of Homecoming (October 7th – 9th). The mission of #ALongTalk” is as follows: “To energize, activate, and empower allies in the pursuit of our shared purpose: To erase racism and dismantle systemic oppression in America.” You can learn more about the program here.

Many members of our department participated in this training virtually earlier this summer and were inspired to elevate our anti-racism efforts. (To view some our reactions and thoughts, watch the video posted here.) In response to this transformational experience, we felt the need to bring our facilitators (and the creators of the program) Kyle Williams and Kamal Carter, to campus.

  • We would love for the Provo community to gather with us and learn from our facilitators during their time here. As such, we’ve reserved time for Kyle and Kamal to meet with the Provo and Orem communities and other stakeholders via Zoom on Saturday, October 9th, from 10:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. Please RSVP to Whitney Johnson (whitney_johnson@byu.edu) and use the Zoom link below to join.

  • In preparation for the meeting next week, please:

    #1 Register HERE.

    #2 Introduce yourself HERE.

Once you register, you will receive an invite to join a Google Classroom where our pre-work assignments are housed.

Please click on the Classwork Tab and watch the Jeffrey Robinson video "The History Of Race In America.” After watching, submit a response on the response form located next to the video link in Google Classroom.

If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to email Whitney at whitney_johnson@byu.edu.

  • This is a great opportunity to take our anti-racism to the next level! We’ll elevate our understanding of other cultures, learn how we can better come together as a Utah community, gain great insights into American history and practice powerful communication tools. Please feel free to share this website with any and all parties you believe might be interested. There is no cost associated with registering.
