Come Home to BYU Oct. 20-24 It happens every year. The Wasatch Mountains surrounding BYU blaze with autumn gold. Shadows elongate as the sun moves toward the south, and crisp morning air prompts students to pull on their jackets. Additionally, thousands of alumni converge on the BYU campus to celebrate the nearly century-old tradition called Homecoming. BYU’s Homecoming 2009, scheduled Oct. 20-24, will begin with opening ceremonies that reflect the 2009 theme. Reach for the Summit, and launch five days of activities as wide ranging as a Mr. BYU talent contest, reunions, tailgate parties, dances, 5K and fun runs, a hike up Y Mountain, a Spectacular showcase in the Marriott Center, a free blue pancake breakfast, and more. The week will highlight cheerleaders, the Cougar Marching Band, honored college alumni (who will give lectures Oct. 23), distinguished and honorary alumni and service to family award winners. The week is designed around a founder whose considerable contributions helped play a role building the Spirit of the Y. The 2009 Founder, Eugene L. Roberts, was BYU’s first athletic director, and a man who ushered in many traditions, including calling the athletes Cougars. |
